Goal Setting for Business and Personal Success

How many people do you think take the time to write down their goals? Some choose to make this a task for the beginning of each year giving them focus on both a business and personal level for the following 12 months. I have done this myself for the many years now. My goals are broken into personal, business and finally my ‘bucket list’. They get posted on my office wall where I can see them every day and I proudly tick off individual tasks as they are completed. Some tasks are enduring so may not get the big tick as they serve to remind me how I wish to be. Others are finite and I get great pleasure gaining completion.

How does goal setting work?

The key to effective goal setting is simple. They must be SMART GOALS which means specific, measurable, actionable, realistic and time bound. This means you must be able to take action to achieve the goal, they must be relevant and time bound, which means they have a deadline.

If you have taken this one step further and have your goals written down that you actually carry with you on your person, either in your wallet or in your purse then congratulations, you are actually in the top 1% of people in the world. The .5%ers go another step further and they make it their habit to review and recite their goals 3 times a day. This is done with enthusiasm and passion. It may sound silly but just think about it for a moment. If you are taking the time to recite several things three times a day in no time at all your mind will believe it in every way. What the mind believes the body will act on.

Tomorrow’s tip – Learn to say “how can I afford it?” not “I can’t afford it”.
